Today, I wanted to share my tried and true recipe for my basic green juice. This is my foundation juice of choice. I drink it when I need a boost of liquid nutrition — it’s like a giant, delicious liquid multivitamin. Juicing affects the body on a similar impact timeline as alcohol, but with (obvi) a supportive and nourishing quality — within 15 minutes, it is in your bloodstream feeding your cells. It’s important to note that because of this impact timeline, you generally want to juice vegetables and low-sugar fruits and keep higher-sugar fruits for blending so your body still has the fiber to slow the glycemic impact to your system.
This recipe is not necessarily a first-timer juice, but it becomes a good foundation. With juices and smoothies alike, I recommend people start their liquid nutrition journeys with neutral greens like spinach and work up to the more bitter greens like kale and collards. Your body and tastebuds will adjust to the compounds over time and what once was off-putting (or downright revolting) will become tasty and necessary.
Go-Go-Gadget Green Juice
1 large cucumber
3 ribs celery
4 leaves kale (or 2-3 handfuls of other greens)
1 lemon, roughly peeled
1 med-large apple
1 large handful parsley
Roughly chop all ingredients to fit through the chute of your juicer. Juice all ingredients, rotating textures as you go to keep things moving through the juicer. If you like absolutely no pulp, run juice through a nut-milk bag (or a clean/food-only paint strainer bag from the hardware store). Pour and enjoy!
